How Our Tours Work

IT’S LIKE GOOGLE-MAPS + A PODCAST:

Our phone-guided audio tours transform a simple drive into an unforgettable experience. Think, “Google Maps + Podcast.” Each tour acts as your personal storyteller and guide, taking you on an immersive journey in the comfort of your own car. It’s like having a private tour guide by your side – one who brings along Master Distillers, brand owners, and lively locals to tell you the stories of Kentucky and of bourbon.

As you cruise along, a narrator guides you through the windy back-roads of bourbon country. Your location triggers the guide’s stories, directions, historical facts or legends, and expert interviews tailored to the place you’re passing. With each twist and turn, the audio seamlessly syncs with your location, painting a vivid picture of the surrounding environment, making your drive come alive. It’s worth it, trust us.

HOSTED ON THE VOICEMAP PLATFORM:

We publish our phone-guided audio tours on VoiceMap, the leading platform, world-wide, in GPS self-guided tours. They’ve been around for over 10 years, and members of our team have been publishing tours on it since 2018. You can download the VoiceMap app on Apple or Android. You’ll need to create a VoiceMap account, but they won’t spam you.

USES YOUR PHONE’S GPS:

Our tours use your phone’s GPS location to guide you along pre-planned routes. Once you arrive at the tour’s starting location (using your own wits…or Navigation app), you open up VoiceMap, select the tour, and hit Play. Then you set your phone down and enjoy the story. The tour will tell you when to start driving and where to go.

Just like a navigation app, we’ll give you a heads-up when a turn is coming up, and then tell you where to turn. The big difference is that between those turns, you’ll hear stories about the area and interviews from folks who live there.

YOU DOWNLOAD THE TOUR AHEAD OF TIME:

Each tour needs to be fully downloaded prior to beginning, so we recommended doing this while on Wifi. The reason tours must be downloaded is that cell reception throughout the Kentucky region becomes very spotty. When you download the tour, it’s not just the audio directions and story, you also download the map and route. Since GPS is a separate system from cellular data, when you lose all bars in the middle of rural Kentucky, we’ll be able to keep guiding you to the next route.
