Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

It’s Google Map + a podcast. It’s a high-tech app + traditional tour!  Using your phone’s location, our tours guide you along a pre-planned route. You get turn-by-turn directions to each distillery’s front-door. And between each of those turns, you get to hear incredible stories and interviews about the region you’re driving through and place you’re driving to.

For more details, see our How The Tours Work page.

Why choose our tour?

Because you’ll spend way less money on a tour, and can then spend way more on special bottles of bourbon! Because you can set your own pace and schedule. Because you don’t have to worry about getting crammed on a bus with that obnoxious guy who had a few too many samples. Because…

We can tell you plenty more reasons HERE.

How much does the tour cost?

Less than most of the bourbon you’ll want to buy. Your experience with Kentucky bourbon does not have to cost you or your group hundreds or thousands of dollars just to get the cookie cutter experience. One of the biggest advantages of GPS-guided driving tours is their cost-effectiveness. Unlike traditional tours, where you pay a premium for a guide, transportation, and a fixed itinerary, GPS-guided tours offer a more affordable option by magnitudes of savings.  There are no guide fees, no tips, and no hassle with strangers preferences. By choosing our Birth to Boom guided tour, you’re investing in a personalized, flexible, and affordable travel experience at a price point that is much cheaper yet more immersive than any other option available. So how much?  $29.99 for any group size, for any length of time, and the best part is—you own the tour once its done.  Come back and enjoy the tour as many times as you’d like.

Do I need a special device for the tour?

Nope. Practically all modern smartphones can handle phone-guided tours because of their connection to GPS. Just ensure you have a good data plan or reliable Wi-Fi access to download the tour.  Once you purchase the tour, you download it directly onto your phone—which means you don’t have to worry about losing signal on the back roads of Kentucky.

Do I need a special app for these tours?

Yes. Our tours are hosted on the Voicemap platform which allows you access to hundreds of guided audio tours from across the world.  Open yourself to this option for this experience and others–It’s a really cool way to experience new and exciting places including Kentucky!

What if my phone battery dies?

We highly recommend that you plug your phone into your car charging ports.  While there’s no issue with your phone being unplugged, you’ll likely be opting to take tours at these distilleries and you’ll want to ensure you have enough juice to get you through your day. Also, the VoiceMap app will not work if your phone is in battery saving mode—so, best to keep it charged up!

How long do the tours take?

The audio and driving portion of the tour itself is about 2.5 hours.  However, that doesn’t include pit stops and distillery tours.  We think planning for one busy day or breaking the tour up into two days makes the most sense.  That’s the best part about this tour, its on your schedule.

Can I pause the tour?

Yep!  There’s a pause button.  Whether you stop for a bite to eat, bathroom break, or at the distilleries themselves, you’ll love the ability to choose when and where you pause the tour.

Can I customize the tour route?

No. Similar to a traditional tour, the tour routes are mostly fixed.  However, unlike a traditional tour, you decide when to pause it.  So, if you see a place you want to stop at or a group of distilleries you want to visit not on this tour, pause the tour and go visit them!  You can turn our tour into your own personal experience  because our tour gives you the flexibility to start and stop at your own leisure.   You’ll pass by some incredible distilleries that aren’t on this tour (Willet, Wild Turkey, and others), we highly recommend pausing the tour to see these amazing and historical places.  Can’t do that with a traditional tour.

What if I get lost or there’s a traffic issue?

While our tour is designed to keep you on track, there’s always a chance you might veer off course, get stuck in traffic, or have to deal with road construction.  You’d have to deal with these delays and challenges no matter what type of tour you take.  The app’s map will always show you the next storyline point.  If you’re slowed down due to traffic, don’t worry, the tour will start again when the next story line point is reached.

If you’re ahead of the storyline points, make sure to stay at or below the speed limit.  If you get off course, we suggest finding the next story line point and using your phone’s GPS to get you back on track.  While there are some things that are simply out of our control, the flexibility of our tours gives you the chance to see and hear everything you paid for.  We don’t skip experiences because of delays or needing to be back at a pre-determined time.
